About Galaxolide Fragrances
Galbanum is a resinous gum obtained from Ferula species — large umbelliferous plants native to Iran and the broader Middle East — by incising the stems and collecting the milky sap, which dries into a greenish-brown resin. It is one of the oldest aromatic materials known to humanity, mentioned in the Book of Exodus as one of the sacred ingredients of the Hebrew incense ketoret. Its scent is arrestingly sharp and green: a cold, balsamic, almost piney greenness with a slightly bitter, raw-vegetable edge and a deep, resinous warmth in the dry-down.
In perfumery, galbanum has a long and distinguished history as the quintessential cold-green note. Its primary aroma compound, a sulfur-containing pyrazine, delivers an unmistakable freshly-crushed-green-stem quality that is unmatched by any other material.
