Collection: Tansy Fragrances

In perfumery, tansy is a sharp, spicy and bitter herbaceous note that grows noticeably more pungent at higher concentrations. Drawn from the button-flowered wild herb, it opens with a camphoraceous, almost medicinal bite, green and bracing like crushed stems and bruised leaves, then settles into a dry, slightly resinous bitterness with hints of wormwood and chrysanthemum. This is not a pretty-floral material but a character note, used in trace amounts to add wildness and tension.

Tansy works well against aromatic herbs such as rosemary, sage and artemisia, sharpens green chypres, and gives mossy, woody bases a rugged, untamed edge. The mood it creates is austere and outdoorsy — windswept fields rather than manicured gardens.
