Thyme Fragrances

Thyme is a small, woody evergreen herb (Thymus vulgaris) native to the Mediterranean basin, where it has been cultivated since antiquity. Its essential oil is steam-distilled from the leaves and flowering tops, capturing the aromatic compounds that give the plant its bracing, savoury character.

Its scent is herbaceous and penetrating: warm, dry, and green, with a sharp, slightly medicinal facet drawn from its naturally high phenol content. There is a peppery, almost camphorous lift on top, settling into a leafy, mineral-tinged warmth that feels clean and faintly spicy.

In perfumery, thyme is a classic aromatic material, lending crispness and vigour to the fougere and the herbal cologne. It usually works in the top to heart, adding a bracing, sun-warmed accent, and pairs naturally with lavender, rosemary, and sage, with citruses above and oakmoss or woods below.
