Iris Fragrances

Iris — extracted primarily from the dried rhizomes (roots) of Iris pallida and Iris germanica grown in Tuscany, Morocco, and China — is one of the most precious, labour-intensive, and sought-after ingredients in all of haute perfumery. The roots must be harvested and then dried and aged for a minimum of three years before yielding orris butter or orris root absolute, making iris production a process of extraordinary patience and craft. The resulting material is so expensive that it is associated almost exclusively with the highest tier of luxury fragrance.
