Sweet Pea Fragrances

Sweet Pea Fragrances

Sweet pea is the blossom of a climbing garden vine (Lathyrus odoratus), a member of the pea family long cultivated for its ruffled, pastel flowers and delicate scent. The living bloom yields little usable essence by ordinary means, so its aroma is most often built in the lab from a palette of floral and green materials.

The scent is fresh, dewy, and softly floral — a watery sweetness laced with green stems and a powdery, almost honeyed warmth. It carries hints of hyacinth and rose, light and airy rather than heady, reading clean and luminous on skin before settling into a gentle, slightly waxy floralcy.

In perfumery, sweet pea belongs to the floral family and most often sits in the heart, lending transparency, freshness, and a spring-garden lift. It blends easily with other delicate florals such as freesia, lily of the valley, and rose, and pairs well with green notes, soft musks, and light fruity facets.
