Perfumes that contain fragrance note – Sandalwood | Scent profile: A classic oriental woody note, milky, soft, sturdy, rich, with a green top note and a satisfying lingering scent. The best quality used to be the Mysore sandalwood variety from India, nowadays greatly reduced to the point of extinction from perfumery due to shortage of the natural material (the species is protected from harvesting because it's an endangered species). Australian sandalwood and New Caledonian sandalwood are different species with a harsher odor profile.

In light of some recent launches, like Molecule 04 and Escentric 04 from Escentric Molecules, the fragrance community has focused on Javanol - a synthetic material that smells of sandalwood. In addition to Javanol, Escentric 04 contains notes of grapefruit, juniper, osmanthus, rose, mastic and labdanum. The brand's nose, Geza Schoen, insists that it is the first fresh sandalwood in perfumery, while others have simply been “cloying and sweet”.
